| iPhone 4G will sport dense, 960x640 IPS display most likely | 29th May 2010, 7:18 pm by raluaces |
Just over a week before the fourth generation iPhone is expected to debut at Apple's WWDC, prototype screen components of the new model have reportedly appeared, this time in the Czech Republic.
According to a report by SuperiPhone.cz, the next iPhone will sport a high resolution screen using conventional IPS LCD technology similar to iPad.
The Czech site reported on a screen component it says will be used on the new iPhone, detailing its specifications under a microscope. It compared the high resolution new iPhone panel and its "amazing" 320 pixel per inch display against the existing HTC HD2 (217 ppi), the Verizon/Motorola Droid (265 ppi) and Google's Nexus One (252 pip).
Unlike the AMOLED panel used by Google's Nexus One, the iPhone's new screen will feature the same regular, uniform grid of red, green and blue display elements. The Nexus One's screen uses a "PenTile" grid, reportedly to reduce costs, which packs smaller green pixel components between red and blue elements. This irregular arrangement of subpixel elements results in the Nexus One providing a less accurate display of lines on the screen.
The IPS screen technology Apple uses (from the iMac to the iPad) provides wide viewing angles, a more accurate color gamut, and fewer potential problems in production. OLED screens are plagued with manufacturing issues, production is constrained, and nobody is manufacturing the screens in large numbers.
Dealing with more pixels
At a reported 960 x 640 resolution, the new display will make it easy for the new model to render existing iPhone apps via pixel doubling, while also giving Apple bragging rights to the highest pixel density on a mainstream smartphone screen.
Apps can also be optimized to take advantage of the new resolution, much the same way that existing iPhone apps can be adapted to support the iPad's higher resolution, while being distributed from the App Store as a …

| Microsoft: Windows Mobile 6 has no upgrade path to Windows Phone 7 | 1st March 2010, 10:20 am by raluaces |
Natasha Kwan, Microsoft’s General Manager for Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific market, has spoken, and Windows Mobile 6 owners are not going to like what they hear. When asked about the possiblity of a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade path, Kwan dropped this bomshell to tech blog APC: “Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable.” And that includes the HTC HD2. While the HD2 meets the extensive list of hardware component requirements, it fails to fulfill one superficial prerequisite: it has more than 3 dedicated buttons. Perhaps this is one of the first, albeit painful, steps in a better Windows mobile platform experience for all. However, we now know this for certain: if you want to run Windows Phone 7, you’re going to need some new hardware. Though we’re sure the crew at XDA will change that if you’re a daring individual.

| Cisco to push the Internet into overdrive? | 27th February 2010, 9:25 am by raluaces |
A circulating rumor suggests that Cisco is developing a new technology to give the Internet a major speed boost. Details on this rumored technology are sparse but Cisco claims it will “forever change the Internet” and will “show what’s possible when networking gets an adrenaline boost.” The new technology will target telecommunication service providers and will be marketed as a means of improving the customer’s high speed Internet experience which we hope translates into 100Mbps speeds with no throttling and no bandwidth caps. Cisco’s new technology will be revealed on March 9th, slightly ahead of the March 17th unveiling of the National Broadband Initiative plan, a plan which not so coincidentally will push for minimum Internet data transmission speeds of 100Mbps and will require telcos to pipe this high speed service to 100 million homes in the US within ten years.

| Adobe taking a pass on Flash 10.1 for WinMo 6.5, will go straight to 7 | 25th February 2010, 11:57 am by raluaces | www.engadget.com/media/2010/02/flash-101-some.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
An Adobe employee over in the company's official forums dropped a bomb earlier this month that they've now decided to pass on releasing Flash 10.1 for Windows Mobile 6.5, instead moving straight to 7. The official explanation is that "WinMo6.5 does not support some of the critical APIs that we need," but frankly, this sounds like a load of crap -- since the project was announced last year, there's no way it took them this long to figure out that an official cut for 6.5 wouldn't be technically possible. If we had to guess, the real justification also explains why Adobe has been so quiet on the matter: 6.5's now viewed as a dead-end platform since 7 represents a clean break for Microsoft, and the company feels like it can't be bothered to invest the necessary time, energy, and money to see the project through. In all likelihood, Adobe was briefed on 7 prior to its official announcement at MWC, and that's when the decision was made. Of course, that's all pure speculation on our part -- but regardless, don't get your hopes up, HD2 owners (unless you get an upgrade, that is).

| Is your Windows 7 copy legit? | 23rd February 2010, 10:36 pm by ThePreserver |
If you, or anyone else you may know have a copy of Windows 7 installed that you or they know is not legit (got it from a friend or the internet), then I have alarming news my friend. Today, Microsoft released their Genuine Validation update through Windows Update as an Important Update! There has been talk that they were going to release it as Optional around the 18th, but I just think Microsoft wanted to make a sneak attack to the public.
If you have a legit copy of Windows 7, or don't want to put up with a program running in the background constantly checking for validation (no joke), then simply disable the update that resembles the selected one above.

| Moblic E7 stuffs WiMAX, QWERTY, a gamepad, and all our dreams and wishes into a MID | 22nd February 2010, 9:23 pm by raluaces | www.engadget.com/media/2010/02/moblic-e7-gaming-mid-1.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
"Remember the story about the boy who suddenly got everything he ever wanted?" asks the high-pitched man in a funny suit. Gene Wilder was probably referring to the Moblic E7. This 4-inch WVGA MID sports an unnamed 600MHz processor, 8GB of built-in storage, WiMAX, microSD expansion, but most impressively slides open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and delicious SNES-style gaming controls. There's not much more info to go on, like OS, production plans, or price, but sign us up for a dozen.

| Got a laptop lent from high school? Big Brother may be seeing you undress. | 22nd February 2010, 8:10 pm by ThePreserver |
A student from Pennsylvania had the suspicions that they were being watched by their Assistant Principal through his laptop webcam (which mind you, belonged to the school). The FBI considers that a possible illegal act due to invasion of privacy. But in this day in age, you're being watched anyways, might as well bestow that power upon the preteens.
